At the same time, the exercises provide insight into the strategic importance of southwestern. The region contained major oil-producing areas, important transportation routes, military installations, and access to the Persian Gulf. Training in and around Dezful and Khark consequently had significance beyond routine military instruction. It took place in an area central to national defense and economic security.

From a historical perspective, the joint exercises of 1964 represent an important chapter in the history of American military relations. They illustrate how Cold War alliances operated not only through diplomatic agreements but also through day-to-day cooperation between military personnel. Field exercises allowed soldiers and officers from both countries to work together, exchange knowledge, test procedures, and develop practical familiarity with one another’s capabilities.
