The Story of Master

He is widely regarded not only as a master of Persian music but also as a symbol of artistic integrity, a cultural bridge, and a voice of conscience for many and people who appreciate Persian culture worldwide. Shajarian’s voice and interpretations help preserve centuries-old Persian musical traditions; he was instrumental in keeping alive forms that might otherwise have dwindled.

He also trained many younger musicians (including his son Homayoun), influencing future generations. His recordings, in both Iran and abroad, continue to be listened to, studied, and revered. His songs often carry layers of meaning — poetic, spiritual, political — allowing them to resonate differently in different eras. Mohammad-Reza Shajarian believed that music was not merely entertainment but a form of spiritual expression and a path toward self-knowledge.
