The Revolution of 1979 altered the course of many lives, including Kambiz’s. His mother was banned from singing and performing for more than two decades. Overnight, the woman who had been the face of modern pop music was silenced. For Kambiz, this meant a childhood where his mother’s fame remained legendary, but her art was suppressed.

Many left the country, and the diaspora carried Googoosh’s music with them as a nostalgic treasure. In this atmosphere, Kambiz grew up with both reverence for his mother’s legacy and the challenges of adapting to a new environment abroad.
