The Life and Legacy of Niloufar Afshar

While much of Niloufar Afshar’s personal biography remains undocumented, her entry into the Pahlavi royal family at a young age places her within one of the most pivotal periods of Iran’s modern history. Born around 1950, she belonged to a generation of women who came of age during a transformative era under Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi’s reign.

The Shah’s reforms, particularly through the White Revolution of the early 1960s, sought to expand opportunities for women, promote education, and modernize society. For Niloufar, becoming the bride of a Pahlavi prince meant straddling two worlds: the traditions of Persian aristocracy and the rapidly modernizing influences reshaping the country.
