The First Wife of poet
With Ashraf, he experienced the first rhythms of family life. Their household grew quickly with the births of their children, Siavash, Siamak, and Saghi, giving Shamlu both the weight of responsibility and the grounding of fatherhood. These years, though marked by hardship, were also decisive in shaping Shamlu’s perspective: he wrote not only from the vantage point of a poet but also from the lived experience of a husband and father in post-war.
The marriage, however, faced strains. Shamlu’s arrests and imprisonments due to his political activities, his financial insecurity, and his uncompromising devotion to literature made family life difficult. Eventually, Ashraf and Ahmad separated. Yet, even after the end of their marriage, her role as the mother of his children kept her tied to his personal history.
