Survival in Silence

Living in hiding also changes the way people perceive time. Days can feel long and uncertain, especially when there is little news about what is happening outside. People often try to maintain a sense of normal life by creating routines. They may set times for meals, quiet reading, writing, or teaching children basic lessons. These small routines help people maintain hope and stability in an otherwise frightening situation.

Children in hiding face unique challenges. They must quickly learn to stay silent and follow strict rules, even when they do not fully understand the reasons. Many cannot play outside or meet other children for long periods. Their world becomes limited to the small space where they are hiding. At the same time, adults often try to protect them emotionally by telling stories, playing quiet games, or encouraging them to keep learning.
