Luxury Brand Model
The fragrance business expanded substantially during the 1980s, bringing the Bijan name to a much broader audience. By 1987, Bijan for Men and Bijan for Women had become best-selling fragrances in the United States, according to the company’s historical account. The brand also received multiple FiFi Awards and other recognition for its fragrances and advertising. The distinctive bottles became almost as recognizable as the fragrances themselves.
Bijan understood that packaging was part of luxury branding: a perfume bottle could function as a miniature piece of design and a symbol of the house. The classic Bijan perfume bottle has since received an additional cultural distinction—the House of Bijan says that the bottle is part of a permanent display at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.
