Heir to a Statesman’s Legacy
When the Revolution erupted in 1978, Dr. Pirnia left alongside the Pahlavi family. She remained steadfast in her loyalty, accompanying them into exile. Following the Shah’s death in 1980 in Cairo, Dr. Pirnia’s life entered a period of deep sorrow and decline. Not long after, this devoted physician—who had bound her professional and personal life to the service of the royal family—tragically ended her own life in exile.
Her story is one of loyalty, service, and tragedy, reflecting the fate of many who were caught in the upheavals of modern history. Dr. Liusa Hamzavi, later known internationally as Dr. Lucy Pirnia, was among the pioneering Iranian women in medicine during the 20th century.
