Heir to a Statesman’s Legacy
Dr. Liusa Hamzavi, later known as Dr. Lucy Pirnia, was a distinguished physician who played a unique role in modern history. She was the founder and CEO of the Mother and Infant Support Agency, an institution dedicated to advancing maternal and child health. Her reputation as a skilled and trusted doctor brought her into the inner circle of the Pahlavi court, where she became the personal physician to the four children of Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi.
Over time, her dedication and loyalty earned her the position of the Shah’s special physician, and she would ultimately serve as the last doctor at the bedside of the monarch during his final illness. Dr. Pirnia was married to Ahmad Abolghasem Pirnia, the sixth son of Hassan Pirnia (Moshir al-Dowleh), one most respected statesmen. Ahmad was born in 1913 in Tehran, carrying on the legacy of a family deeply rooted in political and cultural heritage.
