Types, Benefits, Risks, and What to Expect
Plastic surgery is a specialized field of medicine that focuses on reconstructing, restoring, or changing different parts of the body. It can be performed for medical reasons, such as repairing injuries or correcting congenital conditions, or for cosmetic reasons, such as changing a person’s appearance.
The term plastic surgery comes from the Greek word plastikos, meaning “to mold” or “to shape.” Despite the name, plastic surgery does not involve plastic materials. Instead, surgeons work with the body’s own tissues and, when appropriate, medical implants or other materials.
