Firstborn, middle, or youngest? Birth order affects children’s health
Beyond physical health, firstborns are often pushed toward “parentification” or taking on parental roles. They learn early on that caring for others increases their value. As a result, older children may be more meticulous and cautious.
However, this upbringing can have serious implications for their mental health. A 2024 report by Epic Research found that firstborns are 48% more likely to experience anxiety and 35% more likely to suffer from depression compared to other children in the family.
