It is currently impossible to judge how “Tasiyan” will unfold in its later episodes. Some critics have even suggested that the storyline might eventually take a different turn, especially since actors like Mohammadreza Sharifinia and Mehran Modiri, who have faced rumors of ties to the Islamic Republic, are part of the cast.
Nevertheless, it cannot be denied that “Tasiyan,” at a time when more than four decades of Islamic Republic rule have brought nothing but ruin, poverty, and chaos to Iran—and when many people yearn for a return to Iran’s glory days and speak of the “1979 upheaval”—even if it is a love story set against history, at least in its early episodes, it offers a historical narrative with a romantic tale in the background. It is a depiction of contemporary Iranian history that ultimately led to the establishment of a religious government and its consequences.
