The 1976 Oakland Raiders, led by coach John Madden, finally captured their first Super Bowl title after years of playoff heartbreak. After posting an impressive 13-1 regular season record, the Raiders narrowly defeated the New England Patriots 24-21 in the divisional round when Ken Stabler scored a touchdown with just 14 seconds remaining.12 In Super Bowl XI on January 9, 1977, the Raiders dominated the Minnesota Vikings 32-14 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.

3 Oakland’s offense was unstoppable, setting Super Bowl records with 429 total yards and 266 rushing yards.4 Fred Biletnikoff earned MVP honors with four catches for 79 yards, setting up three touchdowns.56 The victory was especially sweet for Madden, who became the youngest coach to reach 100 career regular-season victories and finally secured a championship after six previous playoff disappointments.
