White House hopeful Lindsey Graham

Military action in Mexico would require an Authorization for Use of Military Force, which would need to pass a divided Congress and then be signed into law by the president. Congress would need a two-thirds majority to override a veto.Even then, President Biden, as the commander-in-chief, has direct control over the armed forces. The president has committed to working with Mexico to stop the flow of illicit drugs across the border.

Sen. Lindsey Graham is using photos of himself in uniform to win votes in his presidential campaign, something he’s free to do as long as he includes a disclaimer saying the photos don’t mean the Pentagon endorses his candidacy. Military regulations bar members of the armed forces, including retired members and reservists, from wearing their uniforms “during or in connection with furthering political activities … when an inference of official sponsorship for the activity or interest may be drawn.”
