The Terraced Village in the Clouds

The houses are built primarily from clay, wood, and stone, blending harmoniously with the surrounding environment. Their ochre-yellow facades, a practical choice for visibility in foggy weather, also give Masouleh its distinctive appearance. At the heart of the village lies the Masouleh Bazaar, a multi-level marketplace where artisans and shopkeepers sell local crafts.

Copperware and blacksmith-crafted goods, a nod to Masouleh’s historic reputation for metalwork. The bazaar is also a gathering place — a hub where stories are exchanged, tea is poured, and tradition is kept alive. Masouleh’s residents are deeply connected to Gilaki culture, part of the broader Caspian traditions of northern. Folklore, poetry, and oral storytelling remain strong, often tied to the rhythms of nature and agricultural life.
