The Terraced Village in the Clouds
Masouleh is dotted with small mosques and shrines, many of them centuries old. The Imamzadeh Oun ibn Ali shrine is among the most significant, drawing pilgrims from across Gilan. These sacred places are integral to the spiritual rhythm of the village, hosting ceremonies during religious holidays and serving as gathering points for communal prayers.
Nowruz (Persian New Year) is celebrated with bonfires, music, and communal feasts, as families decorate rooftops and courtyards with flowers and greenery. Harvest festivals bring villagers together to give thanks for rice, tea, and other crops that sustain their lives. Folk events often feature the Ghasemabadi dance, traditional costumes, and music that echo across the mountain air, creating an atmosphere of joy and unity.
