The Terraced Village in the Clouds

Masouleh is not only a physical treasure, but also a place of myths and stories passed down for centuries. Local tales speak of holy men and mystics who once lived in its mountains, retreating into caves for prayer and meditation. Shrines and small tombs scattered around the village bear witness to these traditions, where people still visit to seek blessings and light candles.

Another legend recalls that Masouleh was originally established further north but later relocated after an epidemic. The current site, embraced by mountains and forests, became the new home where the community flourished. Villagers say that the mist which often covers Masouleh is a protective veil — nature’s way of guarding its people.
