From Medicine to the Frontlines of Resistance

When Fatemeh was born in 1956, was in the midst of rapid modernization under the Shah, yet political dissent simmered beneath the surface. By the time she reached adolescence, the political climate was charged with student protests, underground publications, and a growing clash between state power and emerging opposition movements.

Fatemeh’s decision to study medicine was both a personal aspiration and a reflection of her broader desire to serve others. Medical training not only gave her practical skills but also exposed her to the inequalities in society—differences in healthcare access, education, and opportunity. These disparities became a seedbed for her political awareness.
