Coastal City of Carthage
Carthage is perhaps best known for its role in the Punic Wars, a series of conflicts fought against the Roman Republic between 264 BC and 146 BC. These wars shaped the future of the Mediterranean world and remain among the most studied military campaigns in history.
One of Carthage’s most legendary leaders was Hannibal Barca, the brilliant military commander who famously crossed the Alps with elephants during the Second Punic War to invade Italy. Although Hannibal achieved several remarkable victories against Rome, Carthage was eventually defeated after years of intense conflict.
