A Life Between Royalty and Exile

Farahnaz was born in Tehran during the height of her father’s reign. As the first child of the Shah and Empress Farah, she was raised in royal palaces and educated in elite schools, both and abroad. Her childhood was marked by privilege, formal royal duties, and exposure to international culture and diplomacy. The Islamic Revolution in 1979 brought an abrupt end to the Pahlavi monarchy. The royal family was forced into exile, leaving permanently.

After leaving Iran, Farahnaz continued her education abroad, primarily in the United States. She reportedly studied psychology and social sciences, reflecting an interest in human behavior and mental health. This discretion has made her one of the least publicly known members of the Pahlavi family. Farahnaz is known to be especially close to her mother, Empress Farah, who has remained active in cultural and historical preservation related to pre-revolutionary.
