A Composer of Memory

The 1979 Iranian Revolution was a turning point not only but for Jaklin and her family. With the tightening restrictions on music—especially Western-influenced pop—the vibrant scene that her father helped build was silenced. Like many artists, Viguen and his family left the country, eventually settling in Los Angeles, which would become the capital of the diaspora.

For Jaklin, this displacement meant adapting to life in a new culture while carrying forward her Persian identity. It was in Los Angeles that she continued developing her career in music, focusing on composition and lyric writing, often collaborating with diaspora artists who shared her mission of keeping Persian music alive abroad.
