The Youngest Heir of a Royal Heritage
She is the daughter of Prince Ali-Reza Pahlavi and Raha Didevar. Her father passed away before her birth, so Iryana was born posthumously. Her grandmother, Queen Farah Pahlavi, has spoken about Iryana being “very sociable,” and having a strong sensitivity to music, something she also said her father had at that age. Queen Farah noted in an interview that Iryana, during a stay in Paris, would talk readily to people in the street, showing curiosity and a warm nature.
Although she is young, Iryana represents a continuing lineage of the Pahlavi family. Her existence is symbolic in the context of the family history and in the narrative of former monarchy. Her resemblance to her father has been remarked upon by family members. It’s sometimes noted as emotionally significant, since Ali-Reza Pahlavi died before she was born. The Pahlavi family (including Queen Farah) see it as important that the younger generation, which includes Iryana, understand and appreciate the historical era of monarchy—its culture, arts, national identity—even if they didn’t live through it themselves.
