New York City’s new rules for taking dogs on the subway

As of 2025, over 140 stations are now ADA-compliant, with more being added yearly. Real-time updates inside cars and on platforms help riders with hearing or vision impairments. Available at select stations for visually impaired riders. Uniformed officers and undercover police ride the trains regularly.

More lines are transitioning to advanced Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC), allowing faster and more reliable service. The R211 fleet is rolling out, featuring wider doors, digital signage, and open gangways for easier movement between cars. Pilot programs at select stations are testing safety barriers to prevent accidents and improve climate control.
