Eva Peron from cinema to politics

Eva Perón’s influence did not end with her death—it grew. Her legacy has taken on an almost religious quality in Argentina, especially among Peronist loyalists. Streets, hospitals, foundations, and schools still bear her name. Her face appears on currency, and her story is taught in schools and debated in academic circles.

Her embalmed body was itself the subject of political drama. After the 1955 coup that ousted Juan Perón, military rulers viewed Evita as a dangerous symbol. Her body was hidden, secretly transported to Italy, and buried under a false name. It wasn’t returned to Argentina until the 1970s.
