Eva Peron from cinema to politics

By 1951, Eva was gravely ill with advanced cervical cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she continued to work—sometimes in pain and exhaustion—giving speeches, managing her foundation, and participating in Peronist party affairs. Her decision to decline the nomination for Vice President came in the wake of enormous pressure from the military and political elite who feared her power. Just a year later, on July 26, 1952, she passed away at the age of 33.

Her death plunged the country into mourning. She was embalmed and placed in a glass coffin, and over three million people came to pay their respects. Her image, now sanctified by death, took on mythic proportions.
