Eva Peron from cinema to politics

Eva Perón died of cancer in 1952 at the age of 33, but her legacy endured. To some, she was a saint-like figure, a voice for the voiceless who defied the ruling class. To others, especially among Argentina’s elites and anti-Peronists, she was a manipulative figurehead of a corrupt populist regime.

Her life has inspired countless books, films, plays, and musicals, the most famous being Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Evita, later adapted into the 1996 film starring Madonna. That cinematic portrayal brought her story to global audiences, blending myth and reality much as Eva had done in her own lifetime.
