Eva Peron from cinema to politics

She became known for roles that often portrayed struggling but morally upright women—a theme that foreshadowed her political narrative. Eva’s life changed dramatically in 1944 when she met Colonel Juan Domingo Perón at a charity event organized to support earthquake victims. The two quickly became romantically involved, and Eva began to align herself with Perón’s populist and nationalist ideals.

When Juan Perón ran for president in 1946, Eva was not just his wife—she was a powerful campaign asset. Despite fierce criticism from Argentina’s elite, she used her background in media to appeal directly to the poor, labor unions, and women. Her radio speeches, public appearances, and mass rallies showcased her unique ability to connect with the working-class majority, known as the descamisados (the “shirtless ones”).
