Eva Peron from cinema to politics
Eva Perón, known affectionately as Evita, rose from humble beginnings and a modest career in acting to become the First Lady of Argentina and a beloved—if polarizing—symbol of social justice and political power. Her transformation from a radio and film star to a political icon is a compelling story of ambition, charisma, and deep resonance with the Argentine working class.
Born María Eva Duarte in 1919 in the rural village of Los Toldos, Argentina, Eva came from a poor background. After the death of her father and a childhood marked by hardship, she moved to Buenos Aires at the age of 15 with dreams of becoming an actress. In the 1930s and early 1940s, Eva found moderate success in theatrical performances, B-grade films, and especially in radio dramas, where her expressive voice gained her popularity.
