Behaviors That Make People See You as Lower-Class

The Daily Mail says that inappropriate table manners such as chewing loudly, speaking with your mouth full, or using eating utensils incorrectly are a clear sign that a person is of a lower class and doesn’t have an education in etiquette. This is often a consequence of not having this education during childhood.

Such table manners are not merely about politeness; they reflect a person’s upbringing, social environment, and the education they received during childhood. Learning how to behave properly at the table is often taught early on by family or schools, and it becomes a part of a person’s social toolkit. When this education is absent, individuals might unknowingly engage in behaviors that others interpret as signs of lower social status or lack of refinement.
