A Prince’s Farewell

In some traditions, small clay lamps were lit during the evenings of mourning, symbolizing the soul’s journey from darkness to divine light. Food was distributed to the poor in Kamran’s name—a gesture meant to earn divine favor for the deceased and remind the living of the virtues of charity.

Despite his exile and the political discord that defined his relationship with his brother, Kamran Mirza’s death softened many hearts. Historians note that Humayun himself ordered that his brother be buried with dignity, possibly as an act of familial reconciliation in death that could not be achieved in life.
