A Prince’s Farewell

For forty days—a period traditionally observed in Persian and Central Asian mourning customs—prayers were recited, and gatherings were held in his memory. Majlis-e-Tarhim, a memorial assembly, brought together scholars and poets who reflected on the impermanence of power and the fragility of human ambition, themes closely associated with Kamran’s tumultuous life.

During these mourning sessions, marsiyas (elegiac poems) were recited, blending Persian literary grace with Islamic spiritual depth. These verses mourned not only the man but also the fading glory of the once-mighty Timurid dynasty, which Kamran symbolized in his struggle for power and identity within the rising Mughal Empire.
