Her engagement with the Woman, Life, Freedom movement, which gained momentum after the tragic death of Mahsa Amini in 2022, highlighted her enduring solidarity with the people. Afshar used her platform to amplify the voices of protesters and call for accountability from authorities.

Living abroad has also opened new creative doors for Mahnaz. She has expressed interest in collaborating on international film projects and expanding her career beyond the film industry. As of 2024–2025, she has been reportedly involved in film and television projects in Germany and Sweden, where she now spends much of her time.
