A Cultural Renaissance
This idea was reflected in newly designed public buildings, cultural centers, and even hospitals, where artistic works were prominently displayed. The 1979 Islamic Revolution halted much of this cultural momentum. Many artists went into exile; museums were closed or repurposed; censorship and repression reshaped the landscape.
Yet, the legacy of Farah Pahlavi’s meetings with artists lives on—not only in the artworks she helped preserve but also in the memory of a golden age of artistic freedom, dialogue, and ambition. Even in exile, Farah has continued to engage with the artistic community, attending exhibitions, promoting artists abroad, and speaking publicly about the importance of preserving cultural heritage.
