The Voice Behind the Golden Era
Touraj Negahban was a prominent poet, lyricist, and cultural figure best known for his poignant, elegant songwriting during the golden era of Persian pop music, particularly in the 1960s and 1970s. His lyrical mastery helped shape the voice of some of most beloved artists, including Googoosh, Ebi, Dariush, and Hayedeh.
Negahban’s work is recognized for its emotional depth, poetic finesse, and social resonance. He bridged classical Persian literary traditions with modern themes, creating lyrics that were at once romantic, introspective, and subtly political. His songs often dealt with themes of love, longing, loss, exile, and identity — themes that grew even more relevant after the 1979 Iranian Revolution, when many artists, including Negahban, were forced into exile.
