Several cast and crew members addressed the allegations, telling TMZ that Russell, 66, allegedly said the racist slur while working on a monologue with the actor. Amazon Studios insiders claimed it was the actor’s idea to use the slur in the script, however, Russell allegedly used the word outside of filming. The outlet claimed the actor’s decision not to exit the film was also due to a dispute over a nude scene.
The actor complained to Russell about appearing naked in a locker room scene, and the “American Hustle” director reportedly responded in an “unprofessional” manner. Sources told the outlet that an intimacy coordinator tried to work with the actor, but he still felt uncomfortable. Russell ultimately told the actor that he didn’t have to be in the scene at all, the insiders claimed.
